Leadership Waterloo Region marked its 15th anniversary at its annual Fire & Ice Gala. The fundraising event, held at Bingemans, included dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions, and entertainment featuring Major Hoople’s Boarding House.

Heels for Hope
The Canadian Cancer Society’s second annual Heels for Hope featured hors d’oeuvres, desserts, entertainment, games, and silent and live auctions. Guests were also invited to donate clothing, shoes and accessories to help women entering the workforce. The Holiday Inn Kitchener-
Waterloo Hotel and Conference Centre was the official sponsor for the event.

Warm Hearts of Africa
A movie première and reception at the Princess Twin Cinemas in Waterloo raised funds for Warm Hearts of Africa. The charitable movement, founded by Kitchener native Michael Gregson and Matthew Steele, helps Malawi through small business development and improvements in health care and education.

Day of Remembrance
A memorial lunch at the Holiday Inn in Kitchener marked the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Last Dec. 6 was the 25th anniversary of the gunning down of 14 women at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. The lunch was organized by the Canadian Federation of University Women Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph as well as the Aboriginal Student Centre at Wilfrid Laurier University. Proceeds from the event help fund an annual award to a graduate student.
